Google car will have manual controls

Google car will have manual controls

Remember those amazingly cute Google cars? Well, it seems they are not cute enough to gain the government’s full trust. New California laws request that self-driving cars have full manual controls, allowing the driver to take over at any time.
Google is said to be working on adhering to these laws, giving their car a pedal and steering wheel system. About 100 of these prototypes will soon be ready for testing, safety being the most important concern.

Xiaomi power bank pre-sales start in India

Xiaomi power bank pre-sales start in India

Xiaomi’s popularity now extends past the affordable smartphone market. They make great devices for stunning prices, and their latest release involves two accessories for those who keep running out of juice in the middle of the day.
Xiaomi is releasing a couple of external batteries: the Mi 5200 mAh Power Bank and the Mi 10400 mAh Power Bank. Their names are relative with the amount of energy they hold, but the impressive part is the price range.
These external batteries cost 799 and 999 Rupees, which equals about $13 and $16.50 USD, accordingly. These are now available from Indian retailer Flipkart, are you signing up for one?

OnePlus One update fixes battery issues

OnePlus One update fixes battery issues

The last update to the OnePlus One brought some improvements, but as expected from any update it also brought some issues. We usually don’t mind the occasional bug, but this one affected battery life. That’s a huge no-no for the community!
The latest update manages to fix the issue, though. The update also brings a few more improvements, including audio fixes, touchscreen fixes and a new radio image.
Current OnePlus One users should be getting their updates soon, so keep an open eye on your devices.
Opinion: Don’t ever mess with our battery life, as that is one of our most valued smartphone factors. It’s good to see OnePlus acting fast, though.

Cricket Wireless offering $100 credit to T-Mobile and MetroPCS converts

T-Mobile is taking all the glory lately, stealing customers from every carrier out there. In fact T-Mobile and Metro PCS (owned by T-Mobile) make the biggest prepaid network around, something Cricket just couldn’t ignore.
Cricket Wireless is offering $100 to any T-Mobile or Metro PCs convert. New customers must port their number to get the $100 credit, and the offer stands until October 19.
Opinion: I love what T-Mobile and MetroPCS are doing lately. Frankly, I don’t know if $100 would convince me to switch, but you may have your reasons!

Samsung Gear 3 said to come with a curved display

Samsung Gear 3 said to come with a curved display

Rumors say Samsung is getting ready to announce yet another smartphone, this time naming it the Samsung Gear 3. Pocketnow’s sources claim this device will feature a unique display, as it will sport a curved display that is more rectangular than square.
It’s also said the wearable will have no camera this time around, as well as keeping the Tizen OS.
Opinion: The same sources claim a release date is to come some time in September, so IFA would make the most sense for an announcement. I am more interested in Android Wear at this point, but let’s stay tuned until all the details emerge.

HDR photos from the Xiaomi Mi4

While out and about yesterday I decided to test HDR on the new Xiaomi Mi4. The following (original) photos are the results.
The build and materials are where Xiaomi made the biggest change for the Xiaomi Mi4 this year, but not the only changes. The Mi4 also has a much improved front and rear camera, and with 3GB RAM and that fast Snapdragon CPU on board images are processed faster than ever before.
I wanted to see just how good the Mi4 rear camera was, and I also decided to use HDR to see if the speed of the camera and quality of the shots offered a good user experience. Anyone who has used HDR on their phones will know that it takes a little longer to process an image, but if the software on the phone has been tuned correctly the resulting photo can be stunning.
