Huawei celebrates Chinese New Year by giving you a discount or a free speaker

The year of the goat is upon us, at least for those of us who follow the Chinese year cycle. Chinese New Year is to be celebrated this Thursday, which would be February 19th, and Huawei can’t think of a better way to party it up than to give you some sweet deals.

The Chinese manufacturer is holding a couple deals until February 28th. You can get one of two things with the purchase of a Huawei Ascend Mate 2, which is already super cheap at only $299.99. Anyways, you can get either $30 off the purchase or opt for a free bluetooth speaker (Huawei Color Cube Mini Boom Box).

Meizu MX4 Running Ubuntu Touch Surfaces

Meizu is really under the spotlight lately. The company has launched their latest handset just recently, Meizu is doing great as far as sales go and everything seems to be in place. This Chinese OEM has big plans, no doubt about that. They have signed an agreement with Alibaba a while back in order to use parts of Alibaba’s YunOS in their own Flyme OS and basically created a partnership between two companies. That’s not the only agreement Meizu signed in the last couple of month, just last month this company has agreed partnership with Canonical, a UK-based company which is known as the creator and developer of Ubuntu operating system some of us are very familiar with. Ubuntu OS has been available for PCs for a long time now, but this company created a mobile version of this OS (Ubuntu Touch) as well and we’ve seen it in action when Canonical showcased it on one of the Nexus handset a while back, I really don’t recall which one was it. Ubuntu was also shown off on Meizu MX3 a while back and it will be arriving on Meizu handsets officially in Q1 2015 according to the agreement which Canonical and Meizu signed.

These Ubuntu Touch-powered Meizu handsets will be available in China and Europe, as far as we know, this information could change soon though, Meizu might decide to launch them in other markets as well. Anyhow, a new image surfaced showing off Ubuntu Touch on Meizu MX4 handset. Someone sent this image to GSM Arena and they published it. That’s not much to go on, but we’re clearly seeing Ubuntu Touch UI on there and considering the release of Ubuntu Touch-based Meizu handsets should occur in the next couple of months, we should start seeing more and more leaks like this one. Canonical and Meizu still haven’t released all the necessary details when it comes to their partnership and the devices which will be powered by Ubuntu Touch. Some rollout details couldn’t hurt either, but I guess it’s too early for that. We’ll just have to wait a couple of months and see what do these two companies have in store for us.

Intex launches Aqua i5 Octa smartphone for INR 7,499

Within days of releasing the new Aqua Power smartphone in the country, Indian smartphone vendor Intex has announced the launch of another Android smartphone. It is also a part of the company’s Aqua-series and dubbed as Intex Aqua i5 Octa.

The phone has been priced at INR 7,499 and will be available exclusively at Amazon India in the three colour options – Blue, Black and White.

“With the Aqua i5 Octa, we hope to make performance look as alluring as possible. What ideally turns the tide in our favor is the market boost that we intend on getting with a launch such as this. By unveiling this handset, we would like to believe that our quest to be seen as a brand that is financially accessible and technologically progressive is on the verge of nearing its completion,” said Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Mobile Business Head, Intex Technologies.

The Intex Aqua i5 Octa features 5-inch qHD IPS display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot and 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek processor. The phone also packs Android 4.4, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front shooter, and 2000 mAh battery. In addition, Intex has included dual-SIM support, 3G, and the usual set of connectivity options on the phone.

On the software front, Aqua i5 Octa comes pre-loaded with applications like Opera, OLX, Paytm, Intex care and Newshunt.
